BAS KOSTERS: “MY EXHIBITION – TRANEN ZIJN DE GLITTERS VAN HET LEVEN CONSIST OF A COLLECTION OF COLOURFUL TAPESTRIES AND DRAWINGS THAT SHOWCASE THE WORLD OF MYSELF.”

Bas Kosters (40) presents his exhibition ’Tranen zijn de glitters van het leven’ in the Open Space Contemporary Art Museum (OSCAM) in de Bijlmer. The exhibition consists of a collection of colourful tapestries and drawings that showcase the world of Bas Kosters. The exhibition can be viewed daily until August 30.

THE EXHIBITION

The viewer is invited to the world of Bas Kosters, one of the leading fashion designers in the Netherlands. It’s a world full of research, memories, inspiration, experiment and craftsmanship. Through the tapestries and drawings, the richness and depth of Bas Kosters’ work is shown.

THE WORKS

The tapestries are made out of multi-layered textiles on which freehand-cutted human and animal figures are artistically attached. Kosters’ love for colours and materials are clearly seen in his work. Fabrics as cotton, wool and silk are carefully selected and collected. Every piece of fabric is used thoughtfully in the tapestries.

THE CONSUMER SOCIETY

Koster’s work is beyond just colourful tapestries, but rather celebrates the value of textiles. Bas aims to create art from everyday materials, to treasure and to keep forever. His artworks are a sign of resistance to our consumer culture where in shopping has become a crucial ritual for shaping and transforming our identities. In the world of Kosters, nothing will ever be discarded and made to last a lifetime. In the current collection, each carpet tells its own story. The newest works specifically deal with the re-evaluation of emotions and the role they play throughout the span of our lives.
