Fashion is about identity, that’s no secret. We all wear clothes because we want to express our feelings, define our personalities, and show our allegiance to a particular tribe of people. When the cognoscenti of the fashion industry create styles, when the cognoscenti of the fashion industry create a new look, some choose to define themselves by it, identifying themselves, outwardly at least, with the ideas behind the products. But how important is the idea of identity to fashion, and what kind of role can style play in conveying the politics behind identity itself? MAFB seeks to explore this territory.
